What’s the pilot for?

Ford (FCE Bank PLC and Ford Smart Mobility Services) has partnered with Humn to explore creating an insurance product that uses the advanced capabilities of your Ford vehicle to give you the power to control the cost of your insurance in the future. Instead of premiums based on generic factors like age or postcode, Ford customers will be able to harness the power of data to get rewarded for better driving. The safer you drive, the lower your premium.

How does the pilot work?

The Humn Console tracks and analyses how, where, and when you drive, using data from your vehicle. During the pilot, you’ll get a monthly report with a driver score that shows how you’ve driven, as well as tailored insights and actions that you can take to improve your score. In your final report, you’ll get a breakdown estimating how much you could have influenced your premium using Humn’s Console.

So, what do I need to provide to take part?

All we need to get started is some basic information about you: your name, email, age, postcode, and how many years of no-claims bonus held. And some details about your vehicle: your estimated annual mileage and your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Please enter all of this in the form at the top of this page. Humn will need your permission to access your Ford vehicle data. You’ll be prompted through your in-vehicle media screen, where we can connect your individual data to our system and provide the most accurate driving insights. Please note you can only enter one vehicle and one driver into the pilot at this time.

If you have not done so already you will need to download Ford Pass Pro from your App store and connect it to your vehicle by following the in-app instructions.

Am I eligible for the pilot?

To be eligible, we’ll need to be able to receive data of a high enough quality from your vehicle. This means some vehicles with older telematics may not qualify. Any data we receive, including personally identifiable information, will be deleted within the legal limits.

How do I share my vehicle data for the pilot?

If you sign up to the pilot, you will receive a notification via the infotainment screen in your vehicle a few days later. Accepting this notification allows us to connect your vehicle data to our system and provide the most accurate driving insights during the pilot.

How long will the pilot last?

Following a set-up period, the pilot will run for three months. This gives you the chance to experience the system and get meaningful feedback. It also gives us enough data to calculate an estimated annual premium based on how you drove, as well as other contextual factors. We won’t be providing insurance during the pilot so you’ll need to keep your existing vehicle insurance.

Can I withdraw from the pilot and what happens to my data?

Your data will only be used for the purposes of this research pilot and will only be shared with Ford and Humn. Please see our Privacy Policy for full details on how we’ll use your data. If you change your mind, you’ll be able to stop the data transfer at any time from the settings screen in your vehicle. You can withdraw at any time without giving a reason by contacting us fordpilot@humn.ai

What do I get out of it?

You’ll be among the first drivers to access this pioneering program and you’ll have the opportunity to share feedback that will help us build a product that will give you control of your insurance premiums in the future. During the pilot you’ll get reports on your driving behaviours and how to improve them. The final report will give you an indication of the price difference between your current insurance and what you would have paid with Humn, taking all your data into consideration. You won’t be able to sign up to Humn insurance after the pilot, but we’re working on bringing this to you as soon as we can and you’ll be the first to hear about it.

What’s a Safety Score?

The Safety Score is a value between 0 and 100, where a higher score indicates safer driving. We combine vehicle control, environmental risk and driver fatigue to provide a 360-degree risk picture for every journey. That data is turned into a personalised Safety Score and actionable insights that shows you exactly what needs to be done to improve your score. The Safety Score is split into three categories:
Good
You consistently drive expertly and safely, with only minor hiccups here and there
Fair
We’ve noticed some recurring areas for improvement. It’s not bad, we just know you can do better!
Poor
Your driving has some difficulties, with episodes of serious risks to yourself and others. Don’t panic, we’re here to help, and we’ll improve your safety in no time

How can I influence my Safety Score?

The following driving behaviours will boost your score, safety, and even fuel consumption:

Smooth braking and acceleration
Bigger gaps between you and the vehicle in front
Avoiding distractions when driving
Reducing speed around bends
Always driving within the speed limit
Making sure you take regular breaks

What happens at the end of the pilot?

We’re using this pilot to design a new type of insurance for single commercial vehicle drivers. It will reward those who drive safely with improved premiums. After the pilot, you’ll be the first to hear about our future insurance offerings of this nature.
